Surface Finishes

Select from two surface finishes for your sheet metal part. These options ensure your part is safe to handle and ready for immediate use straight from the box:

Surface Finishes

This is the most common surface finish for sheet metal parts, involving using a random orbital sanding device to remove dross, surface debris, and buildup from the previous cutting process. Orbital sanding is not ideal for cosmetic applications and is best suited for internal components or situations where form, fit, and function are the primary concerns.

This surface finish uses a sanding belt to apply a uniform directional pattern to the sheet metal’s surface. Designs with a grain direction are typically used for cosmetic or end-user-facing applications. The straight grain can be applied to your part in three ways:

  • Perpendicular to the most extended bend (when formed) or edge (when flat)
  • Parallel to the most extended bend or edge
  • At a 45-degree angle to the most extended bend or edge

Note on Welded Parts: Weld beads create a raised surface at the weld site. Our process blends the weld bead seamlessly into the surrounding metal, ensuring a smooth and uniform edge.
